2010-0530 9th Doctor by danmartin26 2010-0530 9th Doctor by danmartin26
Here's a drawing I did this week of Christopher Eccleston as the 9th incarnation of Doctor Who. During the same period, I was plowing through all 13 episodes in which he appeared. This is my first real exposure to Doctor Who, and I'm loving it.

I'm very pleased with this drawing. Like everything I do, it's a bit scratchy, but I'm happy with it as it is, and I think I'm ready to move on to a new subject.

ok I think you are very talented and I can learn alot from you. However i notice that all your pictures are quite suttle and light, I am still not quite shure if it's in the scaning or you lack of corage while drawing. [link] is an exeption where you finaly get some dark shades into the picture. I would love to see that more in your work. I will also give you an example from my work (I am not as good as you, but this picture does show quite well how real dark shades can make a picture seem more alive) [link]

Thanks for the best critique I've received so far on DA!

I think what you've noticed is a mixture of things. First, yes, scanning is a small part of the issue. I have to figure out how to better get my digital images to look like what's in my sketchbook. They're close, but something is lost. Secondly, and most importantly, you hit the nail on the head that it's a lack of courage in my drawings.

I made a conscious effort to go darker in my latest drawing (Smallville), but still I can and should keep pushing it. I think I may experiment with different pencils in my next drawing, as I found it difficult to get a true black with the colored black pencil I have been using.

Thanks so much!

thanks for such a kind reply.
Black pencil is a good idea, did that with [link] , lately when I wanted to do a special drawing I used some charcoal pencils to get realy dark.

Oh I'm glad you're enjoying Doctor Who!! It's my favourite show :D You have depicted Eccleston perfectly! Right down to his little bumpy thingy on his cheek hehe.

Thanks! I've been watching a lot of Tennant episodes lately. I'll probably tackle his portrait soon.
